Disability Service offices will be temporarily closed

The Disability Service offices will be closed from Monday, 16 July to Wednesday, 25 July 2018 due to the temporary relocation to the John Day Building, while the Steve Biko Students Union building is being renovated. This renovation includes the 4th floor where the Disability Service is currently located.

The closure will allow for the packing, transportation and unpacking of the staff offices, the Disability Service Computer lab, and the Abigail Mlotchwa Dayhouse to the temporary offices.

Staff will endeavour to attend to email queries during this time where possible.

Students and colleagues will be notified once the Disability Service is open again in the new premises. This is anticipated to be on Thursday, 26 July.

Please note that the accessible transport service will continue as per normal. In addition, alternative arrangements for affected staff and students have already been initiated and communicated.

Free Xhosa Communication Skills Courses for Staff and Students

Register for Masithethe isiXhosa Course for staff offered by the Multilingualism Education Project (MEP) based in the Centre for Higher Education Development (CHED).

The course will take place from August to October 2018. It is a 12 session course offered during lunch time and afternoons.

The course covers basic conversation e.g. personal introductions, making friendships, interacting with the community, giving information and making simple requests. The course will also provide you with basic knowledge of the African culture, Xhosa culture in particular. A university certificate of completion will be awarded at the end of the course.
